If you only have one day available in the city and would like to visit different sites and take home a large number of bird species, we have this option for you. We will begin with a visit to La Estanzuela Natural Park, where we will look for birds typical of the oak and riparian forest such as Crimson-collared Grosbeak, Spot-breasted Wren, Black crested Titmouse, Rufous-capped and Golden-crowned Warblers, Blue Bunting, Rose-throated and Gray-collared Becards, Green Jay, Golden-olive and Acorn Woodpecker, Olive Sparrow, Clay-colored Thrush, Painted Redstart and Blue-capped Motmot.
After that, we’ll have lunch. Then we’ll head to La Boca reservoir to look for aquatic birds such as Ringed Kingfisher, Osprey, Golden-fronted Woodpeckers, Neotropic Cormorant, Pied-billed and Least Grebes, Black-bellied Whistling Duck, Great and Snowy Egrets, Spotted Sandpiper, Killdeer, Barn and Northern Rough-winged Swallows, Tropical Parula, Red-winged Blackbird, Dusky-capped Flycatcher, Clay-colored Thrush, and Black Phoebe, among others.
In the afternoon, we will visit the Santiago Grassland area where we can look Plain Chachalaca, Morelet’s Seedeater, Long-billed Thrasher, Rufous-capped Warbler, Black-crested Titmouse, Rose-throated Becard, Tropical and Couch’s Kingbirds, Spot-breasted Wren, Ladder-backed and Golden-fronted Woodpeckers, Crested Caracara, White-eyed Vireo, Groove-billed Ani, Brown and Green Jays, Olive Sparrow, Clay-colored Thrush, Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet, and many more. In summer we can look for Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Blue Grosbeak, Varied Bunting and Sulphur-bellied Flycatcher.
This tour can be extended into the night between April and August, to look for the endemic Tawny-collared Nightjar.
