This preserve is located within the Cumbres de Monterrey National Park in the Sierra Madre Oriental, features a diverse ecosystem primarily characterized by pine-oak forests and submontane scrubland, and a subhumid temperate climate. Here is a good place to look for Black-crested Titmouse, Rufous-capped Warblers, Gray-collared Becards, Green and Mexican Jay, Golden-olive and Acorn Woodpeckers, Carolina Wren, Clay-colored Thrush, Hutton’s Vireo, Painted Redstart, Blue-capped Motmot, Band-tailed Pigeon, Flame-colored and Hepatic Tanagers, Brown-backed Solitaire and many more, especially during migrations.
