This unique site in Nuevo León is located 2 hours from the city, in the municipality of Linares in the southeast of the state. This natural preserve features primarily Tamaulipas thornscrub vegetation along with a significant wetland area dominated by cattails. This Ramsar site exhibits high biodiversity, including native and endemic species such as the Altamira Yellowthroat.

There are several notable bird species within its wetland and thornscrub hábitats including Greater Roadrunner, Brown Jay, Long-billed Thrasher, Altamira and Hooded Orioles, Botteri’s Sparrow, Northern Beardless-Tyrannulet, Northern Cardinal, Pyrrhuloxia, Northern Mockingbird, Killdeer, Least Grebe, Roadside Hawk, Least Bittern, White-tailed Kite, Swamp Sparrow, and many more.

Winter is a good time to look for Sandhill Cranes, and different species of ducks, warblers and sparrows.
